III. Oil Analysis
Monitoring and testing programs extend beyond preventative maintenance to predict equipment performance. The programs identify developing problems in their early stages ? resulting in reduced downtime, increased availability of equipment and lower maintenance costs. The programs also provide an immediate alert for serious problems, as well as support for equipment warranty claims.
Monitoring and testing of lubricants and fluids in use employs the Conoco/Phillips Oil Analysis Program. This program detects foreign contaminants and wear particles found in lubricants. The Lubrication Engineer may also utilize Conoco/Phillps proprietary Research and Development Laboratories for more extensive testing and metallurgical analysis.
SeaPort's proactive maintenance strategy concentrates on identifying conditions that could cause equipment failures. Proactive maintenance focuses on maximizing equipment life by identifying and correcting potential root causes of failures. Increased productivity and maximizing equipment life are directly attributable to tactics such as maintaining clean lubricants and fluids, installing efficient filtration (contamination control system) and de-watering equipment and frequently monitoring the quality of fluids. |
